Hon. (Deaconess) Christiana Bassey Essien, JP, is a seasoned politician, grassroots mobilizer, and respected community leader currently serving as the Vice Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area. She also serves as the Chapter Women Coordinator of the Arise with Renewed Hope Initiative, Uyo Chapter. She is widely recognised for her dedication to public service, community development, women’s empowerment, and inclusive leadership at the grassroots.
She hails from Nsukara Offot in Ward 7, Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, where she was raised with strong values of discipline, leadership, and service to humanity—values that have continued to define her personal and public life.
Her educational journey began at St. Michael Primary School, Nsukara Offot, and she later attended City College, Port Harcourt, where she obtained her West African Senior School Certificate. She later attended Heritage Polytechnic, where she earned her Higher National Diploma (HND). Her academic background provided a solid foundation for her leadership capacity and administrative competence.
Hon. Christiana Bassey Essien has served in several political and community leadership roles over the years, demonstrating consistency, commitment, and a deep understanding of grassroots politics. Her service record includes positions as Ward Ex-Officio, Ward Woman Leader, Chapter Ex-Officio, and Councillor, before her current role as Vice Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area. Through these responsibilities, she has contributed meaningfully to community development, women’s inclusion in governance, and the advancement of people-oriented initiatives within the local government.
A devoted Christian and ordained Deaconess, Hon. Christiana Bassey Essien is known for her moral integrity, humility, and commitment to service in both the church and society. She also holds the title of Justice of the Peace (JP), reflecting her role as a peace builder and respected voice within the community.
