Dr Udo made the remark on Monday, May 18, 2026, during the All Progressives Congress Senatorial Primary Election for Oku II Ward 11, held at QIC Government Model Primary School, Oku, in Uyo Local Government Area.
Addressing party faithful gathered for the exercise, the Uyo Council Chairman commended the peaceful conduct of members and stakeholders, noting that the direct primary process allows every registered party member to participate in choosing candidates for elective positions.
“Direct primaries have returned power to the people at the grassroots. Party members now have the opportunity to decide who represents them through a transparent and inclusive process,” he stated.
Dr Udo further reminded party members that other primary elections would be held in subsequent days within the week, including those for the State House of Assembly, Governorship, and Presidential tickets.
He reaffirmed his support for Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo as his preferred candidate for the State House of Assembly, while also declaring support for Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for the governorship ticket, especially in appreciation of the construction of a model school in Oku under his administration, and for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the presidential ticket.
Following the headcount conducted through the Option A4 voting system, the Returning Officer, Hon. Ubong Utang, declared Senator Aniekan Bassey the winner of the exercise after party members unanimously filed behind his candidacy during the primary election.
The APC Senatorial Primary Election in Oku II Ward 11 was attended by stakeholders, including the former House of Assembly member, Hon. (Barr.) Aniedi Ndem, party leaders and supporters who turned out in large numbers to participate in the accreditation and voting process.
