The Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr Uwemedimo Udo, on Monday officially received the Distinguished Service Award on Grassroots Development, recently conferred on him at the Nigeria Public Service Awards 2026, as members of the Uyo Local Government delegation presented the award plaque to him at his office.

The prestigious national honour was bestowed by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) under the Presidency as part of activities marking the United Nations Public Service Day.

The award ceremony, held at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, featured a Lecture Series and Awards Dinner with the theme: "Transforming Public Institutions: Advancing Innovation, Participation and Inclusion."

Dr Udo, who also serves as Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), was represented at the event by the Secretary of the Uyo Local Government Council, Mr. Ubong Udofia. Other members of the Uyo Local Government delegation included the Leader of the Uyo Legislative Council, Hon. Ekemini Bassey, and the Councillor representing Ward 13, Hon. Ekerette Okon.

Receiving the award plaque, Dr Udo expressed appreciation to the Bureau of Public Service Reforms for the recognition, noting that the honour has further strengthened his administration's resolve to continue serving the people of Uyo with dedication, integrity, and a commitment to delivering impactful grassroots development.
