The Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr Uwemedimo Udo, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting students and promoting youth development, assuring that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) will continue to enjoy his solidarity and support.
Dr Udo gave the assurance when he received a delegation of NANS, led by the South-South Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Victor Ogechukwu, alongside the Joint Campus Committee (JCC) Chairman in Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Elsie Ntete, during a courtesy visit to his office on Monday, July 6, 2026.
Dr Uwemedimo Udo, who is also the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Akwa Ibom State, charged the student leaders to pursue self-development, uphold integrity and good values, and strike a healthy balance between student politics and their academic pursuits to ensure they graduate with excellent results.
He encouraged them to build meaningful relationships and networks that would positively impact their future careers and leadership aspirations.
The Chairman recalled his days in the student movement, noting that he understands the sacrifices and responsibilities that come with student leadership, which he described as selfless service to others.
He congratulated Comrade Kingsley Edet on his emergence as the Worldwide President of the Uyo Students Association and urged him to work closely with the JCC Chairman in building a united and progressive platform for students.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the South-South Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Ogechukwu appreciated the Chairman for his support to students in Uyo Local Government Area, particularly through the consistent payment of bursaries and other interventions aimed at improving students' welfare.
The Zonal Coordinator also commended Dr Udo for investing in the growth of student leadership, describing the support as a demonstration of genuine commitment to youth development.
He further appealed for mobility support to the JCC State Chairman to enhance her official engagements and personal security while discharging her responsibilities.
Also speaking, the Akwa Ibom State JCC Chairman, Comrade Elsie Ntete, lauded Dr Udo for his role in fostering unity among students of Uyo extraction. She noted that the Chairman's regular bursary payments had eased the financial burden on many students and encouraged them to remain focused on their education.
Responding to their requests, Dr Udo assured the delegation that all their appeals had been noted and would be considered in line with available resources.
