The Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, has flagged off the distribution of 20,000 improved palm seedlings to farmers in the area.

‎The ceremony took place on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the AKADEP Office in Uyo. This local rollout forms part of Governor Pastor Umo Eno’s statewide Tree Crop Revolution, launched recently with an initial 620,000 high-yield oil palm seedlings across all 31 local government areas.

‎The initiative, a key component of the ARISE Agenda’s Agricultural Revolution, aims to restore Akwa Ibom’s leadership in oil palm production, boost food security, create wealth for rural households, and drive economic diversification.

‎In his remarks, Dr. Udo, who is also the Akwa Ibom State ALGON Chairman, thanked Governor Umo Eno for championing agricultural revival and Prof. Okon Ansa, Chairman of the State Agriculture and Food Security Committee, for driving the vision.

Dr Udo, ‎the Akwa Ibom State ALGON Chairman emphasized that providing quality planting materials will increase palm oil output, raise household incomes, and strengthen the local agricultural value chain. He warned that anyone found selling the seedlings would face sanctions and pledged training and extension services to support proper cultivation.

‎Prof. Okon Ansa explained that each beneficiary household would receive 40 seedlings and reinforced the directive against selling them.

‎Other speakers, including the Leader of the Uyo Legislative Council, Hon. Ekemini Bassey, and the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, HRM Edidem Sylvanus Okon, echoed the call for proper use of the seedlings and commended the initiative.

‎The event was attended by Vice Chairman Hon. Christiana Bassey, Council Secretary Mr. Ubong Udofia, Uyo APC Chapter Chairman Mr. Young Godwin, council officials, traditional rulers, village and family heads, former Chairman Arc. Essien Nkanga, and other dignitaries.
