The Chairman made this known on Monday, May 11, 2026, when he received a delegation of Uyo in Academics led by its President, Prof. Imaobong Akpan, during a courtesy visit to his office.

‎Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman expressed delight at reconnecting with the academic community, recalling his years as a lecturer at the University of Uyo. He described members of the group as distinguished scholars and reiterated his administration’s support for education through bursary payments, school fees assistance and academic project support.

‎He also highlighted some impactful projects executed by his administration across Uyo, as well as the continued investment in youth and sports development.

‎The Akwa Ibom ALGON Chairman appreciated God for the emergence of the incoming Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof. Christopher Ekong and expressed confidence in his ability to address issues concerning Uyo people within the university community.

‎Earlier, the President of Uyo in Academics, Prof. Imaobong Akpan commended the Chairman for what she described as exceptional and diligent leadership, noting that his administration had brought peace and development to Uyo. She particularly praised the reintroduction of bursary payments for students.

‎Prof. Akpan also applauded the Chairman for executing people-oriented projects, including the electrification of communities and the compassionate home project, while appreciating the role of Uyo in providing land for the establishment of the University of Uyo.

‎She, however, observed that there was little to identify Uyo as the host community of the federal institution and appealed for the establishment of an “Uyo Hall” within the university as a symbol of identity and recognition for the people of Uyo.

‎She pledged the readiness of the group to partner with the Chairman for the continued development of Uyo, describing Dr Uwemedimo Udo as “a treasure" in Uyo.
